The West Coast has a long history of car culture: They've been fixing up classic cars since the highways were paved and carved through the Rockies. The bustling factories of post-war Detroit were a long drive away from California so people had to learn to appreciate the models that made the trip. Classic car restoration is a way of breathing new life into a vehicle with crisp paint jobs, chrome fenders and, of course, hydraulics. In the heartland of America, people like to do things a little bit differently. Work doesn't start at nine and end at five. It starts when it needs to and ends when the job is done, even if it means walking into a headwind while swatting the tumbleweed out of the way. Mother Nature doesn't wait for anybody, and when you're loaded down with two tons of fresh wheat, you don't have time to punch a clock. Agriculture has a special schedule that goes beyond the smart phone and digital calendar. What goes up the grain elevator must come down, and it's best to make sure your hopper is ready and waiting, no matter what it takes.

The "Against the Grain" design is for all of the drivers and farmers that know crops don't just magically appear in the grocery store. Before we had the digital alarm clock, there stood the rooster. Chickens used to set the tone for the morning by getting everyone to the breakfast table right as the sun cracked the horizon, and to top it all off, they’d always have some delicious eggs ready for a proper country omelet. Even though the rooster is now more of a symbol than a morning necessity, it doesn’t stop truckers from carrying on their spirit while out on the road. Sometimes, it means taking shortcuts to save a few minutes, or hauling a clucking truckload of hens from the farm to the table. It can even be when they have more lights than sense on their trailer. Most drivers keep it to themselves but if they’re asked you can expect the reply, “It’s a chicken thang.”

Many of them last for generations, carrying on the legacy of the K-Whopper name as a big-bad hunk of chrome, grease, and diesel.

It's been a whirlwind first-year for Hammer Lane Apparel. We've gone from a small group of people with a handful of designs to a movement fueled by the best community we could have asked for. We've grown to have customers from all walks of life: truckers, mechanics, foremen, and the list goes on. Each and every person that has reached out to us on social media or talked to us at a trade show has played a part in our movement. We've even managed to partner with Allie Knight, a trucking community homegrown hero, to come up with a whole new line of shirts (our AK collection.) We've made it our mission to put out apparel that our community is proud to wear. 

The Hammer Lane isn't for everyone, and we respect that, our shirts reflect a portion of working America that we felt was under represented when we started. We wanted the world of the road warriors, gear-head and midnight shifter to shine bright in an increasingly connected world. We've found Hammer Lane drivers in the UK, Australia, on construction sites in the oil fields of North Dakota and just about everywhere in the world you'll find a truck or a wrench.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, especially when those parts are powering a Peterbilt Truck. Some people brag about how much horsepower they have, some brag about their leather interior- but when you've got a Peterbilt all you have to say is that you run on Peter Power. There aren't many trucks out there that carry the weight Peterbilts do in a conversation. We stay revved up in the Hammer Lane, burning diesel, watts, amps and whatever else we need to get the job done, especially when behind the wheel of a Peterbilt.

We wanted to make a design that shows off one of America's favorite trucks fronted with a grill that is in-your-face. The charcoal black of the shirt mixed with the Pete red make for a stark contrast and an eye popping shirt. Tucked in the center is a charged lightning bolt, a symbol showing how the right truck can get all of our motors running. We know that Pete owners love their trucks so make sure to share your Peter Power story with us on social media tagging it as #PeterPower. We've all been stuck behind an oversized load, praying for an extra lane to pass it. What most people don't know about, is the guts and know-how it takes to haul one. Many of the most wondrous things humans have produced, from skyscrapers to space shuttles, involved a flatbed driver with nerves of steel. We've made a shirt to celebrate people who appreciate this fact and who like to do things bigger and better than the rest.

The shirt features some classic construction yellows, grays and blacks on a big cab-over truck. Hauled behind it is a monstrous piece of construction equipment rarely seen outside the quarry pit, whose tires stand ten feet tall and dwarf the big rig beneath them. Oversize Load means different things to different people, but to a driver it's all about knowing you can carry the weight and keep on trucking. Your pushing through the last hours of a trip, tearing up the road to make good time on a drop off. You're loaded to the brim, the clock is ticking, and on the horizon, what do you see? The bright digital lights of a weigh station. Now some people would get nervous but not you: The straps are secure, the logs are in order, the load is all accounted for and the axles are balanced. The paycheck is as good as cashed. As you get closer you can make out the bright red letters and a wave of relief washes over you: Scale's Closed. Or, in the words of Allie Knight, "Weigh? No Weigh!"

Our newest shirt in the Allie Knight collection is inspired by one of her favorite expressions and by one of the stops drivers must make on their many travels. Fans of Youtuber Allie Knight will be excited to hear that she's running the premier of the Hammer Lane booth this year at the Great American Trucking Show. Over the past few months she's been an integral part of the new AK line of apparel and there is no doubt the shirts she's put her namesake on are top notch. Heralding from Boston, Allie Knight has been creating and publishing great videos about the life of a trucker in the information age. "I explore the country looking for freight, earning an honest living doing the kinds of driving that make civilized life possible for the rest of us," says Allie on the front page of her very popular Youtube channel. In her videos you can find footage of truck shows, truck stops and other driver friendly destinations across the country. She'll also go in depth explaining how drivers handle life on the road and the different challenges the lifestyle brings.

We are so fortunate to have met such an inspiring driver in Allie Knight and hope the future holds a lot of good things for those of us dedicated to staying in the Hammer Lane.

Shifting ain't easy, any trucker will tell you. It's an art that takes time and practice and it's one that you never stop improving on. Even with the advancements in transmissions and computer technology, an experienced driver is required to get the most out of a truck. Proper shifting technique can save gas, time and lives. Being a truck driver and knowing your way around the many gears of a big rig makes you part of a community that can utter with confidence, "Do you even shift bro?" Why shift through five gears when you can shift through eighteen?

Our shirt design features a classic two stick setup, something many newer drivers will never see outside of a museum. The twin sticks are sign of a time when trucking was more akin to the wild west, where every driver needed to know how to drive, shift and fix their transmission if they wanted to make it. The white on charcoal grey setup speaks loudly about the message on the shirt. You either shift well and shift often or you don't at all. At Hammer Lane we support everyone who knows the life, like our friend Allie Knight, and we want to pay tribute with this new design. Pride means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It can be pride in your career, pride in your family or, especially around this time of year, pride in your country. With the Fourth of July coming up, it's important to take a moment and think about what you stand for. How do you let other people know the principles you take with you every day? It's easy to just grill out by the lake with a beer and enjoy the fireworks on Independence Day. It takes a conscious effort to truly appreciate just how special our independence is. If it wasn't for the founding fathers fighting for the rights of the common man and civil rights leaders campaigning for equality we might not have the opportunities we all enjoy.

The Ride with Pride design itself was inspired by both, a love of country and a love of the trucks that keep that country moving. The Peterbilt 379 on the back is as recognizable to an American as the bald eagle flying above it. To many, a picture of American diesel is the most patriotic display you can put on a T-Shirt. At Hammer Lane, we take pride in bringing the things we love to life and big trucks and a beautiful flag are at the top of the list. The charcoal colored background and bright red truck seek to bring the flag to life and inspire another generation of folks who love their country. A truck needs a whole host of parts to run, but no part is more important than the engine. The slab of metal in the middle is the heartbeat. It's what moves the gears, burns the fuel and turns the tires. When someone talks about their truck, generally the first statement made is about the horsepower and brand of engine that is sitting under the hood. Some people don't even mention the make and model, simply referring to their truck as a CAT or a Cummins.

Like a truck, America is made up of a bunch of different parts that all work together to keep things moving. But when it comes to necessity, truckers take the cake. Without trucks on the road the groceries don't make it to the shelves, the tools to the hardware stores and the concrete to the construction sites. Try loading ten tons of asphalt into a minivan- it ain't gonna happen. At Hammer Lane we wanted to make a shirt that celebrates both America and the drivers who keep things moving. Trucks, to us, are as American as the Fourth of July and apple pie.

At Hammer Lane, we like our designs to tell stories. Each shirt represents a different memory or moment that we want to preserve and share with our customers because we know that each driver has a legend brewing within the churning engine of their truck.

A person's vehicle is their canvas. Every little detail and mark tells something about the driver, from the black fencepost tar stuck to the door handle to the loose tools rattling around the bed of a pickup. The longer we own a vehicle the more badges of courage it gathers. Each nick and ding is a memory preserved in metal, each bumper sticker and decal a story to tell your family and friends. Some artists are rough to their ride, pushing it through roaring hailstorms, salty coastlines and muddy backwoods paths. Others keep the wax on and the dirt off, letting their vehicle's beauty shine in the showroom, driveway or garage. This doesn't mean that the pretty ones always stay home. In the Hammer Lane, we've seen our fair share of chromed out road warriors, sometimes shining so bright you have to put your aviators on.

Another iconic feature you'll see painting trailers and bumpers across the country is the stick-on decal. Made popular by the grandfather of them all, the bumper sticker, rear-window decals are now on almost any type of vehicle. They stick on easy and can make a big statement about your hobbies, your small business or a brand you just love to rep. At Hammer Lane we keep it simple with our logo but nothing would make us happier than seeing them on a whole lot of rear windows. The sign you'll see driving into Florida declares it as "The Sunshine State" full of citrus groves, palm trees and beautiful beaches. What you'll figure out for yourself after one trip to the glimmering coast is what the state should really be called: The Bikini State. Florida is home to some of the best stretches of sand in the world and with that comes gorgeous women donning bikinis and sweet smelling tanning oils. One long haul down the Florida coastline, with the windows down and the sun shining, and you'll see why the nickname has stuck. In this state it isn't just something to wear at the beach, it's a way of life that everyone can appreciate and well worth the potential sunburn.

Being Hammer Lane's home ground, we had to make a shirt that reflects the Florida we love. So we used bright colors, a beautiful truck and a woman who knows how to rock a bikini. We understand the Florida sun can be pretty intense so we've designed the shirt's base in a light white, complimenting the lime green of the state license and a tangerine Peterbilt. We've also included a sleeveless option to really beat the heat. Sometimes we know that you gotta roll the windows down on your shirt! This show marked the first time Hammer Lane rolled itself out at a major event, and if this was an indicator for the future, things are looking really bright. We can't tell you how much we are humbled by how nice our customers are and how awesome it was to see people walking away from our booth wearing our newest shirts and designs. By the third day of the show it was tough to walk anywhere without seeing one of our shirts on somebody's back. There was a lot of traffic in the Hammer Lane!

A couple of Mack Truck fans at the booth. That's the "Diesel Dog" shirt, a tribute to some of the toughest trucks around.

Old dogs never die, they just find new masters. Mack trucks have built a reputation on dependability, longevity and loyalty so we wanted to design a shirt that shows off that legacy with a staunch bulldog, steel grey hue and classic truck outline. Most truck drivers and four wheelers know the iconic bulldog but it takes a real gear-head to understand the power and dependability of a Mack engine. These trucks, with proper maintenance, can be passed down for generations racking up millions of hard-earned miles. You rarely see a Mack truck in a front yard collecting rust and dust.

The classic R Model truck is featured on the shirt as it was the flagship of the brand for the better half of a century. The R Series was rolled out in 1966 and was manufactured steadily until it was finally phased out in 2005. Even though they aren't being built on the assembly line anymore, it isn't surprising to see an R model roaming the roads and municipalities of the south. It's not easy being a woman in an industry where you are outnumbered ten to one. Yet, in spite of this fact, thousands of women taking up the trade of trucking, acquire their CDL and hit the open road every year. They ride the same narrow mountain highways, long coast-to-coast lanes and muddy log trails every other driver does all the while overcoming prejudice and discrimination at every turn. We at Hammer Lane believe that the only difference between a man and a woman trucker is how the seat is adjusted.

Women through history have always had to fight to be heard and to be awarded the same rights as men. The first woman to receive their commercial driver's license and drive a commercial motor vehicle was Lillie McGee Drennan in 1929. She had to argue her case to a court to be able to be granted the license, just ten short years after the nineteenth amendment (giving women the right to vote) was ratified. This brave action paved the way for women entering the industry for the remainder of the twentieth century.

We hope this Diesel Dames design shows off the attitude and spirit of women driver's everywhere. It's the first design to have a woman featured in the driver's seat and we know it won't be the last.

A rare group of people are born in the Hammer Lane, others, with time; realize it is where they need to be. They throw on the blinker, put the pedal down, and hit the lane full force. Hammer Lane Apparel began with the design that is featured on this shirt and a goal for this same design to reflect the values of our brand and the passion of our customers. 

The Original tee is for the everyday super heroes that want the best for themselves and their family and are willing to make the sacrifices to provide for them as leaders. This is the shirt that started what we hope becomes a long tradition of quality designs for the people we know and love.

The project starts when the first shovel hits the dirt and when the first sledgehammer hits the concrete. The Breaking Ground design is about the first move on a big project, whether it be rebuilding an engine in your garage or stretching out the frame rails on a gnarly big rig. Even the greatest works of mechanical perfection had a humble beginning, starting with the first turn of the wrench. Bring out the tools, because you're about to burn the midnight oil.

We founded a company on the values of being diligent, hardworking and dedicated and we want apparel that reflects that vision. The sledgehammer has come to be the symbol of unrelenting determination, a sign that you keep the pedal to the medal and forge on to your destination in the Hammer Lane.

Some things just need to be said loud and proud. Some statements need to be made, even if it stops the record at a family barbecue. With the Stacked and Horny shirt, you let people know right away that you've got a sense of humor and you don't have any problem speaking your mind, especially when it comes to your truck. Nothing looks better than a chrome set of exhaust pipes stacked on each side of a perfectly polished big rig. Who wouldn't get amped up to see such a beautiful sight?

Let's not forget the horns too. Nothing is more iconic than the blaring sound of a freight train. Some adventurous drivers will line their frame rails with these bad-boys and lay the hammer down when something gets in their way. Let people know that you bring a little bit of the bull and all of the horns with this new design.

The Cattle Drive is a deeply embedded part of American culture. Most people imagine thousands of cows stampeding across the heartland, tended to by a group of cowboys. What a lot of people don't stop to realize is the hard work and dedication it takes to get these creatures from the grassland to their new locations across the country. Hauling cattle is a tough job full of long drives, bad smells and noisy passengers. Because you have live cargo, every minute on the road is important. Many Bull Haulers see the whole process through, helping get the cattle onto their vehicle at the ranch, ensuring their health and safety during the trip through stops and checkups, and finally making sure everyone is good and accounted for on the drop off. Because of the hands-on nature of the profession, haulers build long lasting, reliable relationships with farmers and their business.

Bull hauling tends to be a generational practice: Father passing on the trade to son and so forth. It's a tough and dirty job but, as any driver will tell you, rewarding and lucrative. With this shirt you can let the world know you were built to drive cattle, just like our cowboy ancestors did.

The skull and crossbones was once something you didn't want to see rising over the horizon. Pirates and renegades would fly the iconic white skull, known then as the Jolly Roger, to signal trouble was coming, striking fear into the townsfolk's hearts. The symbol also served as a practical warning, marking poisonous substances and hazardous locations. While we don't condone violence, there is nothing wrong with making a statement.

For this shirt we've put a twist on a classic symbol to show that it's still possible to have your reputation preceed you. The crossbones have been replaced with ball-peen hammers, a tool any machinist or truck driver is all too familiar with. Also, the sleeves have the bone hammer designs printed down the forearms, for an extra splash of white on a jet black shirt. When you are blaring down the highway pumping black diesel smoke, people are gonna get out of your way.

Our newest shirt continues the trend of representing the tougher side of the trucking industry. A lot of people don't know the ins and outs of trucking under harsh conditions and you'd be hard pressed to find a stranger that could tell you what "Hanging Iron" means, in regards to trucks. Hopefully, this shirt can change some of that, with a glacier blue design and mean looking big rig. Wearing this thing you'll be cooler than black ice.

For those that don't know, hanging iron is slang for a truck that is equipped with tire chains. When you're hauling thousands of pounds of goods, every bit of grip can be the difference between sliding off the road and making it to payday. The chains dig into the snow and ice and keep the tires from sliding. It isn't an easy process, as the chains can be heavy and difficult to attach, but the show must go on.

There is no easy way to navigate twenty tons of freight down a snow-covered hill, and every truck driver that's worth his salt knows this. The White Knuckles shirt pays respect to every situation like this that makes you clench the wheel tight and rely on years of experience and training to guide the way to safety. The white knuckles grip doesn't imply fear, but rather an awareness of your surroundings. You've got to be tapped in to the world around you to react to each tug of the road and gust of wind. The more experienced you are, the more you know can go wrong. Being prepared is always the best plan, but sometimes you don't have a choice. The Kenworth W900A is an iconic truck that continues to stand the test of time. If you ask any owner-operator or driver, especially David Schnautz of Clark Freight Lines, they'll tell you they love their truck. This shirt is a celebration of tradition and how a truck can be more than just a tool to get the job done: It can be a symbol for a love for the open road and for the lifestyle that trucking brings.

We first met David and his truck in person at the Great American Truck Show and seeing it, in all of its chrome and polished glory, showed how an "antique" truck can look just as good as the day it rolled off the lot. There is something inspiring about an old school truck. You can almost feel the miles and places it's been when you sit down at the wheel. When someone takes the time to rebuild one, you have to appreciate the hard work that goes into it. We've tried to immortalize the feeling in this design by showing off the truck in action at a vintage style truck stop.
